Wylie ISD is offering a free, optional COVID-19 testing service to students who attend school on campus and whose parents would like for them to be tested. Staff members are also able to take advantage of this optional COVID-19 testing. Please read the FAQ section below before signing up for a testing time.

How can I have my child tested?
You can fill out a digital consent form through Family Access under online forms and fill out the student consent form for optional COVID-19 testing.

When will the test be administered?
On-campus by the school nurse when a student develops COVID-19 symptoms during the school day. DO NOT send your child to school sick, we offer off-campus testing. If your child does not have a consent form on file prior to testing, you will be asked to pick up your child and follow the COVID-19 return to school protocol until a permission form is completed.

Can my child be tested when they are not showing symptoms?
Students will only be tested when they have symptoms.

Does my child need an appointment?
No appointment is needed for students being tested on campus during the day by the campus nurse. They will need an appointment if visiting the drive-up testing at the Performing Arts Center. See below.

What if my child gets sick after school hours and needs to be tested?
Do not send them to school. You may sign up for a time here for off-campus testing. You will then need to register your child for a test at https://register.txrapidtest.org/. You will receive a QR code after registering. Please take a screenshot or a printout of the QR code and bring it with you to the testing facility. The testing site for early testing will be at the Performing Arts Center at Wylie High School, 4502 Antilley Rd. Abilene, Tx. 79606. Please use designated parking slots and wait in your car till you receive a text or call to enter the building.

Who is eligible for the free tests?
Wylie ISD students who attend at least one class on campus are eligible for free tests. Students who attend a UIL class on campus are eligible, as well as students who attend other classes on campus. Under state rules, full-time virtual students are not eligible to receive the tests. Family members of students are not eligible. The goal of the state program is to proactively prevent the spread of COVID-19 at school by making free testing available for on-campus students. The tests are provided through a partnership between Wylie ISD, the Texas Division of Emergency Management, and the Texas Education Agency.

Why is Wylie ISD offering the tests?
The district offers the tests as a convenient and free solution to families who want to know if their student is positive or negative. Free testing is one of many safeguards in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help schools remain safe for on-campus instruction

Are tests required?
All testing is completely optional. No student or staff member will ever be required to take a test.

What type of tests are given?
This testing program uses BinaxNOW tests, which provides results in 15 minutes and are administered using a nasal swab in the front area of the nostril. BinaxNOW tests are a rapid antigen test that detects the presence of protein antigens from the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The manufacturer evaluated its tests and found BinaxNOW has a sensitivity (true positive rate) of 97.1 percent and specificity (true negative rate) of 98.5 percent.

What forms are required to test?
Parents must complete a permission form before the test is administered. Students 18 and older may fill out their own consent. If your child does not have a consent form on file prior to testing, you will be asked to pick up your child and follow the COVID-19 return to school protocol until a permission form is completed.

How will I receive results?
Parents will receive a phone call if the student is positive as well as a follow-up text and email for all results. The results also are shared with appropriate campus and district staff and public agencies so that contract tracing and notifications can occur. The identity of the student is available only to appropriate parties.

When does the testing program begin?
The district will begin accepting student consent forms for optional COVID-19 testing through Family Access on November 19th and testing will begin on Monday, November 30th for Staff and December 2nd for students.

Can employees test?
Staff who would like to be tested can register for a test at https://register.txrapidtest.org/. Staff will need to take a screenshot of the QR code or bring a print out of the QR code prior to testing.
