Junior high students discover big possibilities through Wylie’s CTE programs
On a bright afternoon in the courtyard at Wylie High School, the future looked a little closer than usual.
Clusters of Wylie East Junior High students moved from table to table, listening closely as high schoolers shared what they were learning in Wylie’s Career & Technical Education programs. Welding helmets sat beside engineering projects. Culinary tools rested next to design sketches. It wasn’t a typical school day — it was more like a sneak peek into what’s possible.
Instead of teachers doing all the talking, Wylie High students took the lead.
Representing programs across campus, they set up stations throughout the courtyard and welcomed the junior high visitors in small rotating groups. At each stop, the younger Bulldogs heard firsthand what classes are really like — from building projects in construction and engineering to creating designs in fashion, preparing recipes in culinary, or learning real-world skills in health science and agriculture.
The conversations were easy and genuine. A high school student explaining how they wired their first electrical project. Another showing a younger Bulldog how a piece of equipment works. A few laughs mixed in with plenty of curiosity.
For the Wylie East Junior High students, it turned the idea of “high school someday” into something they could see and imagine for themselves.
For the high schoolers, it was a chance to share something they’re proud of — the programs that are helping them discover their interests and prepare for life after graduation.
Moments like these are part of what makes Wylie special: students learning from students, doors opening to new opportunities, and a community that believes in preparing the next generation.
And watching those younger Bulldogs explore the courtyard, asking questions and picturing their own futures, it was easy to see why it’s great to be a Wylie Bulldog.
