At Wylie East Junior High, connection comes first.
There are moments in education that cannot be measured by grades, data, or report cards. They happen quietly - in a daily check-in, a trusted conversation, or a student knowing exactly which teacher to turn to when life feels heavy.
That is the kind of impact Ms. Katie Myers is making at Wylie East Junior High.
Ms. Myers was recently honored through KTXS Teacher Tribute after being nominated by student Riley Archuleta. Riley shared that Ms. Myers checks on her every single day, makes class enjoyable, and creates fun projects that make learning come alive. She also said Ms. Myers is one of the teachers she trusts most.
Riley added that if she ever had a problem, Ms. Myers would be the first person to step in and help.
When surprised with the recognition, Ms. Myers said she was stunned and grateful to feel appreciated. But what stood out most was what she said next.
“It’s the connections,” she shared. “The good days usually outweigh the bad.”
She said the relationships built with students - especially the one she has with Riley - are what keep her coming back each day.
That is the heartbeat of great schools. Not just lessons taught, but lives touched.
At Wylie East Junior High, Ms. Myers is helping students feel seen, supported, and valued. And in a world where young people need that more than ever, her work matters deeply.
We are proud to celebrate educators like Ms. Myers who lead with compassion, build lasting relationships, and remind us why it’s great to be a Wylie Bulldog.
