Bulldogs Dominate at Andrews Sprintacular
Girls finish 1st overall, boys take 2nd in impressive early-season performance
The Wylie swim team made waves on October 11th at the Andrews Sprintacular, earning top-tier finishes that showcased both speed and depth across the roster. The Lady Bulldogs claimed first place overall with 755 points, while the boys’ team finished second with 584 points, just behind Andrews HS.
Altogether, the Bulldogs won 10 of the 24 events at the meet. Head Coach Pacheco credited the group’s hard work and chemistry this early in the year: “The kids are performing very well at this point.”
Among standout performances:
Maria Brigino led the girls with wins in the 100 Individual Medley (1:07.04) and 50 Breaststroke (32.14).
Julia Delauney sprinted to first in the 25 Freestyle (12.77).
Maria Brigino, Arianna Paasch, Summer Diehl, and Julia Delauney teamed up to win the 100 Medley Relay (56.71).
Diego Duarte captured victories in the 100 IM (58.87) and 200 Freestyle (1:56.26).
Josh Heidema claimed the 50 Free (23.65) and 100 Free (51.47) titles.
Laton Thompson took gold in the 50 Butterfly (25.79).
The boys’ 200 Freestyle Relay of Heidema, Thompson, Dougherty, and Duarte also took first with a time of 1:34.52.
Coach Pacheco highlighted the team’s unity and momentum heading into their next challenge: “They’re finding their rhythm early, and that’s exciting to see.”
Next up, the Bulldogs travel to the Arlington Invitational on October 18th at the Arlington Natatorium, where they’ll compete in a full UIL 24-event format — their first matchup against Arlington in their home pool.
