Helping fill shelves and hearts across West Texas
This week, Wylie ISD is joining KTAB, KRBC, Telemundo Abilene, BigCountryHomepage.com, Hardin-Simmons University, and United Supermarkets to support a community-wide Food Drive benefitting the Food Bank of West Central Texas.
Donations will be accepted Thursday and Friday, November 6–7, with the Wylie ISD Administration Building (6251 Buffalo Gap Rd.) serving as one of three public drop-off locations. All donations will directly benefit families in the 13-county service area of the Food Bank of West Central Texas.
Superintendent Joey Light hopes the event inspires Wylie families to reflect on the meaning of the season.
“Any time we can lend a helping hand to our neighbor, it gives us a chance to grow as individuals,” Light said. “If we show that to our students, they’ll carry it forward as they grow older.”
The drive comes at a crucial time for many across the Big Country, as local organizations continue to report an increase in families facing food insecurity. Every can and box donated helps feed a neighbor in need.
The Food Bank of West Central Texas will distribute 100% of donated items to local partners and families throughout the region.
Wylie ISD is proud to stand alongside its community partners in this effort to support West Texans through a season of gratitude and giving.
