One Wylie senior’s recipe for grit, dreams, and a whole lot of heart

Some dreams begin with a business plan.
Kiley Landeros’ began with cupcakes, a kitchen counter, and the simple joy of baking something that made people smile.
Kiley, a Wylie High School senior, is currently competing in the national Greatest Baker competition — a nationwide contest awarding a $10,000 prize and a feature in Bake from Scratch magazine. For Kiley, it’s more than a competition. It’s a step toward a future she’s been building for years, one batch at a time.
Her love for baking started early. At just 10 years old, Kiley sold homemade treats at her grandmother’s workplace, quickly earning a reputation for cupcakes that tasted far beyond her years. When people asked how she did it, her answer was simple: she just had fun in the kitchen. That fun soon turned into purpose.
Today, Kiley owns Simply Sweets 26, her own baking business where she creates custom desserts and an impressive lineup of cookies — from classic chocolate chip to her beloved snickerdoodles. Cake pops, in particular, hold a special place in her journey. They’re the treat that helped launch her business and reminded her that even something small can make a big impact.
Like many Bulldogs, Kiley balances a full schedule. She’s a student, a powerlifter, and an entrepreneur. Her days often start before sunrise at practice and end late at night finishing cake orders. It’s busy. It’s tiring. And it’s exactly where she wants to be.
As she prepares for college, Kiley already has her dream mapped out: a bakery of her own, complete with a storefront and a welcoming space she’s envisioned down to the details. If she wins the $10,000 prize, she plans to invest in a commercial mixer and a mobile pop-up trailer — bringing her baked goods directly into the community she loves.
