Why the Impact Aid Survey Matters for Wylie ISD Military Families

Wylie ISD is proud to serve the many military families who call our district home. Your service to our country is deeply valued, and we are committed to supporting your children with strong schools, quality educators, and the resources they need to succeed.

One important way military families can support Wylie ISD each year is by completing the Federal Impact Aid Survey. While it may seem like a simple form, it plays a critical role in securing funding that directly benefits students across our district.

What Is Impact Aid?

Impact Aid is a federal education program created to support school districts that educate children who live on, or are connected to, federal property — including military installations like Dyess Air Force Base.

Because federal property is not subject to local property taxes, school districts serving military-connected students do not receive the same local tax revenue that other districts rely on to fund schools. Impact Aid exists to help offset that loss so districts can continue providing strong educational programs and services.

In short:
Impact Aid helps level the playing field for districts that proudly serve military families.

Why Impact Aid Is Important to Wylie ISD

Funding received through Impact Aid helps Wylie ISD:

  • Support classroom instruction and learning materials

  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels

  • Provide student services and campus resources

  • Continue offering a high-quality educational experience for all students

When military families complete the Impact Aid Survey, it ensures Wylie ISD receives the full funding amount it is eligible for. When surveys are not completed, those funds may be reduced — even though the need still exists.

A Message from Dyess Air Force Base Leadership

Dyess Air Force Base leadership has emphasized the importance of military family participation in the Impact Aid Survey. Below is the message shared word for word from the Dyess AFB Commander to families with school-aged children.

2025 Impact Aid Parent – Pupil Survey

Memorandum for Dyess Families with School-Aged Children

Impact Aid is a federal education program that reimburses school districts for the lost revenue and additional costs associated with the presence of nontaxable Federal property, including military installations; Indian Trust or Treaty lands; Federal low-rent housing facilities; and national laboratories, Federal dams, national parks and other Federal buildings or lands. School districts containing such property are known as “federally impacted school districts.”

I strongly encourage you to support your child’s school district by completing the Federal Impact Aid Survey Form. Information compiled from these surveys will assist in determining the district’s allotment of Federal Impact Aid. It is, therefore, critically important that the cards are signed, dated, and returned in the timeframe requested by each school. The local school districts have reported that military-connected families from Dyess AFB are participating at a limited rate, which means that your child’s school is potentially missing funds that could be used to improve your child’s educational experience. Your completed form will help your district to get its proper financial funds allotment to support your child.

The cost of education increases yearly. Typically, funding is related to several uncontrollable factors. However, as service members, you have a unique opportunity to assist in securing federal funds for resources that ultimately benefit your child’s education.

We all want a quality education for our military children; this is another means to assist in attaining that goal. I thank you for being an active participant in your child’s education by working with the school systems to ensure our children receive an excellent education. If you have any questions or require assistance in filling out the form, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Dyess AFB School Liaison Program Manager, Darci Hodges, at (325) 696-4591.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Your commitment to your child’s education and our military community is greatly appreciated.

SETH W. SPANIER, Colonel, USAF
Commander
