Wylie celebrates signing day and the paths ahead

The Wylie High School gym felt a little fuller this week — not just with family, friends, teammates, and cameras, but with the kind of pride that lingers long after the pens are set down. National Signing Day brought two Wylie Bulldogs to court, each carrying a different story, a different sport, and the same purple pride.

Running back Julius Laine officially signed to play football at Abilene Christian University, choosing a place that felt like home in more ways than one. The moment was made even more meaningful by the presence of former Wylie teammate Sutton Peck, now at ACU, who returned to congratulate Julius as he took the next step.

Head football coach Coach Martin spoke to the heart of Julius’ impact on the program, noting not just his production on the field, but his leadership, resilience, and character. Julius leaves Wylie as one of the most accomplished rushers in school history, but as Coach Martin emphasized, an even better person — a Bulldog standard-bearer who overcame adversity and led with consistency.

On the soccer side, Noah Rehburg signed to continue his career at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, a destination becoming rich with Wylie connections. UMHB is the alma mater of Wylie soccer coach Zaragoza, who shared heartfelt words about Noah’s leadership and work ethic, pointing to why he wears the captain’s armband. Then came a surprise — Coach Zaragoza presented Noah with a $1,000 scholarship from the UMHB Alumni Association, recognizing not only his athletic ability, but the values he represents.

Both coaches spoke to a large gym crowd, praising each athlete for how they elevated their teammates and represented Wylie with integrity. Media outlets were on hand to capture the moment, with interviews highlighting the significance of the day for both programs and families.

As Julius and Noah move on to the next level, one detail feels especially fitting — purple remains a core color at both ACU and UMHB. The shade may look a little different, but the pride behind it stays the same.

Wylie ISD is incredibly proud of Julius Laine and Noah Rehburg and grateful for the hard work, leadership, and heart they gave to the Bulldogs. Moments like this remind us why it’s great to be a Wylie Bulldog.
