Third graders get a glimpse of their future during CTE Month

There’s something special about watching a third grader walk the halls of a high school.
As part of CTE Month, our East Elementary third graders celebrated Career Week with a full tour of Wylie High’s Career & Technical Education programs — and let’s just say, the future looked bright… and occasionally wore a welding helmet.
Students rotated through hands-on experiences in Ag Mechanics with Mr. Smith, Electrical/Construction with Mr. Vaughn, Fashion Design with Mrs. Yoder, Purple Dog Company/Sports Marketing with Mrs. Breaux, Engineering with Mr. Vann, Child Development with Mrs. Wood, Floral Design with Mrs. McMillian, and Culinary with Mrs. Nelson.
Broken into small groups and led by our outstanding high school Purple Dog Company students, the third graders strutted confidently through the halls like they already belonged.
In Child Development, they gently cradled the robot babies. In Engineering, they teamed up to see who could build the tallest structure. Construction students helped them wire an outlet box, and in woodworking, they watched a birdhouse take shape before their eyes.
They peeked into the Culinary Lab where cakes were baking, slipped behind sewing machines in Fashion Design, learned about merchandising from Purple Dog Company in Sports Marketing, and even checked out welding trailers and helmets in Ag Mechanics.
It wasn’t just a tour. It was a glimpse.
A reminder that the pathways waiting at Wylie High are real, hands-on, and already preparing students for meaningful futures.
And somewhere between the sewing needles and the welding sparks, you could almost hear it:
It’s great to be a Wylie Bulldog. 🐾
